About

The mission of this site is to promote New Hampshire’s involvement in the American Civil War to its citizens and visitors of the state.  Between 1861 and 1865 11% of the state’s population went to war.  Of the approximately 35,000 men who enlisted, 4,800 had died and 5,000 were wounded.  New Hampshire sent seventeen infantry regiments, three batteries of artillery, and two cavalry regiments.  Besides the units raised by New Hampshire, its men served in other divisions of the military (ie. Navy).  This website seeks to capture the stories of its men, women, and children as well as the various places where events transpired that impacted New Hampshire and the Civil War.
